If you could take a one month trip anywhere in the world, where you go? (Book of Questions)

I picked up this book when I was 16 and I've used it as an ice-breaker for every major phase in my life from getting to know my new co-workers, getting to know new friends and even my (at the time!) soon-to-be husband.  Now, let US get to know each other! Are you ready?

113) If you could take a one month trip anywhere in the world and money were not a consideration, where would go and what would you do?

Over the years, I've had many different answers to this question.  I might read a book or watch a TV programme or see a film about Israel or South America or Australia or the Galapagos Islands and my mind will changed yet again and my sights set on someplace new.

It seems a little bit strange, the two huge parts of myself that really mean something to me both shout at me to do differing things.  On the one hand, something deep inside of me craves a distinct home with roots and connections and a place to belong.  I need that psychologically.  And to completely go against that, I daydream of being more of a free-spirit and travelling to my heart's content, of never sticking around in one place long enough to pick up habits or routines.  I want to see the world and to live in it.

And while in the past I've answered this question with a month-long trip to Italy exploring the different cities and regions.  Or sometimes I'd answer China.  Or Egypt.  Or India.  And I still do want to explore all of these places and more.  I'd like to road trip around the US.  I'd like to visit so many different places that it's hard to pin them all down.

But I think the place I most want to visit right in the moment is Japan. There's just something about Japan that calls to me.  Ever since I was little and I picked up a book about feudal Japan from my dad's bookshelf, I've wanted to go.  To see the sights, soak up the atmosphere, experience new things.

If you could go on a month long holiday anywhere in the world, where would you go?

    1. I'd love a three week trip back home! Being spoilt by family, catching up with old friends, seeing the sights that I haven't seen in such a long time. I'd love that. I hope you're having fun :)

    1. Oh Darren, I've done that trip! My family started in Alaska and we worked our way down the Pacific coast, through Mexico and central America and ended up in Bogota, Colombia. I only have small snatches of memories of that trip, but what I can remember is the beauty of it.

I hope you do manage that trip one of these days. I love the drive down the Pacific coast the most. We used to drive between Alaska and northern California twice a year. It's such a gorgeous drive.

  3. Lately I've really wanted to go to New York, but I've always wanted to do a road trip across the States too - so if you go, can I come with?

    1. For sure, Anya! Thinking about it, a bunch of us book lovers could road trip together, driving around stopping off at literary landmarks! How fun would that be?!

  4. I don't really have any wishes to go anywhere- apart from fictional places, that is!
I'm not very good with change and would prefer to stay at home, instead of going somewhere abroad. Good answers! :)

    1. Somehow, my Littlest has been obsessed with going to Africa lately. He talks about it non-stop. I think it's cute, but I'm sure I've never mentioned it to him!

    1. New York seems a popular choice! N keeps mentioning going back there for a visit. My outlook is I've been once, I want to see the millions of other places I haven't been before I go back to a place I've already been.

      Australia could be cool.

  8. So many places! I'd be torn between jetting my way through Europe, or Indonesia-Singapore-Malaysia-Thailand, or India, or Australia, and choosing one place to really experience, in the way that travelers never can. I would also love to see more of the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. There's definitely more of this world to see than I have the time or money to ever accomplish in my lifetime.

    1. Ain't that the truth? All of the places you've mentioned I'd love to see too. Especially Mexico. And countries in Asia. I really just want to visit and experience places very different to where I live now/where I grew up!
