Tolkien is of course the first one that comes to mind, but I was very very young when I read Charlotte's Web, and I'm sure that had some impact as well. Also the Anne of Green Gables series. I've reread all of these over the years...Deniz Bevanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17134553551048836979noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21582709.post-86820911398874068362010-07-06T07:30:20.747+01:002010-07-06T07:30:20.747+01:00What a beautiful post about the power of books. Funny that books that had a negative impact on my psyche come to mind first--I've generally been a fairly content person so maybe it's that contrast that's memorable to me? Food for thought, anyway.Alihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16745786643511417426noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21582709.post-74720660866498831832010-07-04T01:45:07.639+01:002010-07-04T01:45:07.639+01:00The Grapes of Wrath was a game-changer for me, too...The Grapes of Wrath was a game-changer for me, too. I got all weepy about it during an oral book report in high school English and realized "Wow, literature is really my thing." A whole lot of the rest of my life comes from that moment.

Now I have a few books on my shelf that I'm somehow not quite ready for yet. Maybe one of those is my lifesaver.J.G.https://www.blogger.com/profile/02806805528636359436noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21582709.post-19979652409091506892010-07-01T05:59:58.436+01:002010-07-01T05:59:58.436+01:00It's funny what you find you have in common wi...It's funny what you find you have in common with other readers....I remember The Grapes of Wrath from high school and recall that it was the first "adult" book that drew me into the magic of books. I don't remember specifics from the book, but rather what it felt like to NOT be able to put a book down.Michelehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04873109350235219509noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21582709.post-8627325589598721072010-06-30T16:49:13.180+01:002010-06-30T16:49:13.180+01:00Northern Lights by Philip Pullman

I was given a copy of northern lights for my 17th birthday and my getting back into reading (and into reading YA)spiralled from there.

I shudder to think how many years I wasted not reading!kirsty at the overflowing libraryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08688668056795747019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21582709.post-6796175118872823832010-06-30T16:22:03.489+01:002010-06-30T16:22:03.489+01:00This is such an interesting and thought provoking ...This is such an interesting and thought provoking post - thanks for sharing. The Twilight books came to me at a much needed time when I had to step back from life and almost hide into a fictional world as I could not really cope with the real world,so only those ones I suppose.serendipity_vivhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07156013023056026525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21582709.post-82820004786440072852010-06-30T11:57:55.247+01:002010-06-30T11:57:55.247+01:00I love it when people write about the books that c...I love it when people write about the books that caught them just at the right moment and changed their lives - thank you for this post! The book that had the biggest impact on me when I was a teen was To Kill A Mockingbird. I think that's the book that made me who I am today. Beyond that I think I am all the books I have ever read.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14379159908572573355noreply@blogger.com
