It's a sweeping story about twin brothers born in Ethiopia to a surgeon and a nun. Their harrowing birth leaves them without a mother and essentially without their father, who flees the country. I'm going to meet him at the author's event this coming week. :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21582709.post-85112174276534936672009-02-01T21:11:00.000+00:002009-02-01T21:11:00.000+00:00I hardly ever stay up all night reading anymore. ...I hardly ever stay up all night reading anymore. I am looking forward to reading that one. It's such a great feeling to get lost in a book, where time falls away and you just can't put the book down.

It's rare I stay up all night reading anymore, but it's not usually the book's fault. When my body is ready for sleep, nothing will stop it, not even a good book. Niccolo Ammaniti's The Crossroads. It's just been published in English (the original in Italian) and it's super pacy piece of literary fiction that's incredibly tense throughout. Word of warning - it is rather violent and sexually graphic but if you can put up with that then it's well worth the read.

Also keep an eye out for Ammanitti's older novel I'm Not Scared (it's been adapted to movie now as well) It's follows the story of a boy who discovers something shocking at an abandoned house in the Italian countryside; less violent, almost no sexual content but one incredible story.
Have fun, good luck!
Warmest
RobAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21582709.post-77408054022556012752009-02-01T13:03:00.000+00:002009-02-01T13:03:00.000+00:00I hate to be predictable, but the last book I pull...I hate to be predictable, but the last book I pulled an all nighter on was Twilight.
