Last year I did this thing. And I meant to blog about it several times during the year and it never quite happened... In 2012, on New Year's Eve, N and some friends and I were all talking about how we'd like things to change in our lives. And in 2013, we did those things.
I joined a local book club. We started socialising more in different groups involving our hobbies and interests. We started utilising our child-free Friday nights by going out more into London and out to dinner with friends. We went to the cinema every month like we'd always planned to do (once to a drive-in cinema!). We went to sporting events (we saw Usain Bolt), did fun things we'd never have done before (highlight of the year was a ghost-hunting thing overnight in a haunted cave!) and the big thing was that it became 'normal' to be doing different fun things every month. It was wonderful.
And I'm definitely planning to carry on with this doing different things in 2014! I'm starting to get together a list of different things that will make 2014 the most amazing year ever. We already go to all the Legoland events throughout the year. We'll be carrying on with the cinema at least once a month. We've already made plans to go to several conventions this year (UKYA convention!) and we'll be going to visit Scotland for the Commonwealth Games.
But I really want to go to the theater more this year. I want to see The Lion King and maybe Matilda. I want to see more live sporting events, especially if it's diving or athletics. I want to meet up with other book bloggers and booktubers more often this year. I want to experience new things and do stuff that scares me and pushes me out of my comfort zone. I just want different to be my normal and not get back into the rut we were in before... How about you?
What will you be doing in 2014 to make it really amazing?
This sounds like a fantastic idea - and yay for the YA conference!
ReplyDeleteP.S Both The Lion King and Matilda are amazing ;)
Yes, I'm absolutely thrilled about the UKYA lit thing!
Delete...I've been trying to convince N to come with to see The Lion King for years. It hasn't happened yet :( I'm determined that 2014 is the year.
I think I need to spice things up a bit too and do some different things.
ReplyDeleteOh good luck to you! :)
DeleteDifferent is always good :) Gutted I'm going to miss the YA conference though! Still, I've booked up to jump off the Macau Tower in June, guess I can't do everything lol.
ReplyDeleteYou're ... jumping off the Macau Tower?! Wow. That sounds ... very different!
DeleteSo cool! I would like to branch out a bit more with our socializing, too. The guy sings karaoke so we go out for that once in a while, but it is not really 'my' thing.
ReplyDeleteN and some of our friends all do karaoke pretty regularly as well ... it's not MY thing either! :)
DeleteThis sounds like an amazing idea. I'm trying to plan things to look forward to, as I find it keeps me in a good mood throughout the year. I'm going to the Commonwealth Games too! What event are you seeing? I would definitely recommend Matilda. I really want to see Charlie and the Choc Factory next year. Happy planning!
ReplyDeleteWe're seeing two events! Lawn bowls (?!) and gymnastics, I think. How awesome that you're going as well! I don't really have all the details of it. Will ask N soon.
DeleteCharlie and the Chocolate Factory would be great to see as well!
My main New Year's resolution is also to do new things, go on adventures, create memories. I haven't planned the specifics, but I want to visit new places, meet new people, try unfamiliar food and learn to drive. Good luck with all your new experiences, and I hope you get to see plenty of shows. Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you as well, Katie! And Happy New Year :)
DeleteI have so many 2014 resolutions! 2013 was quite a bad year for me so I'm really hoping that this year will be better. My main goal is to try and get more involved with bookish events and to meet more authors. They always look so fun and I only managed to get to one last year. I'm quite awkward when it comes to socialising so it will get me out of my comfort zone :D Congrats on all the great things you've achieved this year!
ReplyDeleteThe Lion King and Matilda are both amazing, by the way!
I hope you had a great Christmas! Happy New Year, Michelle <3
Thank you, Zoe. I hope you manage all of your resolutions and have a better year! :)
DeleteThat sounds like a great plan! I should probably do the same :) I love travelling and going to the theatre/cinema in my free time but I need to socialize more.
ReplyDeleteThe Lion King must be brilliant, by the way - a friend of mine went to see it last month and absolutely loved it. :)
Good luck, Vicky! And arghhh, I desperately want to see The Lion King. Everyone says it's really great! :)
