Flighty
So, I've picked up six books (seven if you count the one I tried to read from the Internet) over the last few days, and none have captured my interest for more than a few minutes. I just don't feel like reading. Those books anyway? This week I've tried: Prozac Nation by Elizabeth Wurtzel, Rape A Love Story by Joyce Carol Oates (both were a little too heavy and disturbing), The Reading Group by Elizabeth Nobel (too many characters to keep track of), Around the World in 80 Dates (it didn't get to the good parts fast enough), Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel (I still have kind of a grudge against this book because it was recommended to me by someone who turned out to be a little cruel and nasty), and what was the sixth book? I'll have to get back to you. But still, I feel a little lost, I need something to read, for more than a couple minutes.

I tried to join a reading group recently (for the second time) and found that once a book is the chosen book for the month, I don't want to read it because I've got to read it. And because sometimes if I don't like the person who's chosen it, I then don't like the book.

You're post has made me want to find a good book too, as I don't have one either!
Uuurgh! Sorry about the horrible spelling of your in above comment. I hate that sort of spelling error. Most, I don't care about. But using the wrong spelling of words like its, your or there is horrible. Makes it worse in a discussion about books :-D That'll teach me to post without previewing ;-)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I tried a book club once and I didn't like any of the books that were suggested (and therefore didn't read any of them). There were only three of us, and needless to say it failed miserably. About your other comment, those things only bother me when it's me that makes the mistake - and I do it all the time. I type too quickly, and sometimes I think too far in advance and forget to type certain words that are needed for what I'm writing to make sense, that's the worst for me :( Still on a hunt for a good book..

ReplyDeleteI would suggest a book for you, but as of late all the books I've read are from a 4th grade classroom.. I have reread some books that I read back in the day, like,Island of the blue Dolphin by Scott O'Dell and The Pigman by I wanna say Pul Zimmerman, but I'm not sure.. Oh I though of one!! Have you read White Oleander by Janet Fitch?

ReplyDeleteBecca - Oh my god, how much do I love Island of the Blue Dolphin? I still have my copy and I read it last year when I was still pregnant with Boy :) Have read White Oleander, thought it was great!
We just had a book fair and I bought Island of the Blue Dolphin As for White Oleander, It is one of my favorite books =)
