What I've Been Reading

Thank you all for your recommendations to my previous post about what I should read next. I did write them all down, and I do take recommendations very seriously and will definately get around to them. I've since been to the library twice, the first time I did see one or two titles that someone said I should read but because I was an idiot and forgot to return the books I already had checked out, I couldn't take but 2-3 books out in total. The second time I got a little carried away checking out titles on the 1001 Books To Read Before You Die list, of which I am currently up to a whopping 83/1001. Here's the list though:

The Gum Thief by Douglas Coupland, I started this book, and then when N came home from work he promptly stole this off my bedside table. Perhaps I'll read it when he's finished then.

Pretties by Scott Westerfeld, the sequel to Uglies, which I read last year for Books. Lists. Life's Dystopian Reading Challenge. Finished in almost one sitting.

Youth by JM Coetzee, read solely to cross off a title on the 1001 list. Didn't particularly like the main character, the style in which it was written or the story.

The Sea by John Banville, It took me awhile to get into this book, but once I did I quite enjoyed it. A book about loss and memory. Not great, but readable.

The Comfort of Strangers by Ian McEwan, Currently reading at the moment and not enjoying immensely.

Black Dogs by Ian McEwan, why are there so many titles by Ian McEwan on this damn list?!

Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe

The Devil and Miss Prym by Paulo Coelho

Skylight Confessions by Alice Hoffman

The Summer Book by Tove Jansson

The Hours by Michael Cunningham

Have you read any of the above? What did you think? What are you reading at the moment?

  1. I read Things Fall Apart in high school. I have no memory of it at all and keep thinking I'll read it again soon.

I'm currently reading Storm Front the first Dresden Files book by Jim Butcher. I hope to finish it today, but I am snowed in with a two year old, so it might not happen.

  3. I'm trying to read Ian McEwan but not loving it and Eoin Colfer's new book the Airman which is really cool.

The Hours was ok but not wow.
    Things fall apart is fantastic!
