Combining Weekly Geeks and The Sunday Salon, today I thought that I would post this list of books that I loved as a child that has been sitting in my drafts folder for months now. I keep meaning to split this list into parts and delve a bit deeper into it, but it feels like too great of a task so I'm leaving it in a list format. I've left it in three parts.

Taken as a whole, this books represent my childhood. I look back at all of them fondly. I wouldn't be the person that I am today without them.
Thanks for prompting me to put some thought into this one. The books I remember are mostly adult crossovers (such as The Jungle Book and Beautiful Joe, the canine equivalent of Black Beauty).
ReplyDeleteMost of the "children's books" others picked out for me were rather sappy: From the Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler and The Scarlet Pimpernel.
I do have a strong fondness for Go Dog Go, however.
This is an excellent list of children's books. If kids just read these, they'd be on their way to becoming fantastic readers!
ReplyDeleteAll great books! Had a thing (read intense attachment) for The Lorax when I was little. Of course, as a children's librarian, I do not have to really grow up ever. Still read all of these great titles every day. Lucky me and lucky you for having all these great titles in your childhood.

ReplyDeleteA few titles here that I loved as a kid, too! I love your idea of documenting the books that made you the reader you are today. My favourite favourite books as a kid were Little Women And Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.. and.. Nancy Drew. :D
ReplyDeleteI loved The Pokey Little Puppy! That was probably my favorite of all the Little Golden Books.
ReplyDeleteOur required reading lists were quite different. I think the only ones we have in common are Island of the Blue Dolphins, The Diary of a Young Girl, and Where the Red Fern Grows-that one was tough since I read it in 4th grade, and the summer between 3rd and 4th we had to put both of our dogs down.
