Guest Post: Greatest Description of Love in a Song

Emma from ASAMUM BOOKTOPIA is one of my favourite book bloggers, you can tell from her posts how passionate she is about books, and she is also a generous and amazing friend. Today she is here talking about a favourite love song. Big thank you to Emma, it's an honour to have you...

This song is like a double-edged sword for me:

a) A Male Voice Choir sang it at my wedding 14 years ago. It was my mother’s choice and you can see from the lyrics why she chose it.

b) As it was my mothers favorite love song we had it played at her funeral.

Now you can see why it is a double-edged sword for me – both happy and sad memories all rolled into one song. The lyrics are so powerful that I have included them after the video just for you to see what I mean. Although not an official video the photographs used are just beautiful.

Enjoy [:D]

The Rose Lyrics

Some say love it is a river
that drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleed

Some say love it is a hunger
an endless aching need
I say love it is a flower
and you it's only seed

It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking that never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken
who cannot seem to give
and the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been too long
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows
lies the seed
that with the sun's love
in the spring
becomes the rose

Awww. That song is very pretty and the lyrics beautiful. Thank you very much Emma, for sharing something so personal with us. Emma blogs at ASAMUM BOOKTOPIA, if you don't read her blog already, you really should.

  1. Very poignant, Emma. I didn't have a song at my wedding (mainly because it was a very, very, very low-key wedding!) but I have a huge sentimental attachement to certain songs.
