REVIEW: Extreme Kissing by Luisa Plaja

I really loved Extreme Kissing by Luisa Plaja! It's a book that made me laugh, but it also made my heart hurt and I just wanted to read more and more. Extreme Kissing is a great book about friendship and secrets and figuring out what you want.

It's also a book that I read at the perfect timing. Do you remember my Doing Things Differently project? It was a few years ago and only the most loyal and long-standing blog readers may remember. But at the time, I felt like I was in a rut and needed to do something different in order to shake up my boring existence. And I read a book and I was inspired to do just that. I felt a lot of those same stirrings of inspiration as I read Extreme Kissing. To shake off my normal, boring routines and do something drastic. To go extreme travelling and have an adventure - but in a way that would suit my very different (non-teenage) life. I love finding books in which something is changed inside of me when I'm reading. I love making that connection to a book.

These two girls, Bethany and Carlota are both going through some big things at the moment. They need a distraction away from Carlota's moaning stepdad and away from this huge crush that she's been holding onto for so long. Bethany also is in desperate need of some distraction as she feels like she'll soon be dumped by her boyfriend. Just when she thinks her period might be late and she could possible be pregnant. So extreme travelling is born.

Extreme travelling, with the help of the girls' favourite teen magazines, is a way to let chance take them on an adventure. Heading into London, the girls really have this amazing and wild day out. A day out that brings them up close and personal to not only cute guys and massive pop stars but also the secrets that Carlota and Bethany have been keeping from each other.

I really love how fun this book is. It's absolutely hilarious and I adore the dialogue and the situations that these two girls find themselves in. From bookstores to fancy hotels and playing video games and shopping, I really felt throughout the book that I'd love to hang out with these girls and share in some of their energy and their fun.

I think the setting is perfect - London is such a wonderful place to go exploring and experience different things. I especially loved the two boys Zac and Yves that we meet, but this story is about Lots and Bets and how they deal with the prospective problems in their lives and also the friendship between the two.

Just like with all of Luisa Plaja's books, I highly recommend this one!
