Impressed? You'd Better Be

So, this week I have managed the recommended two portions of fish. I am so proud of myself. And also confused. Let me start at the beginning. Like I'd mentioned before, I wanted to start eating healthier so I can be a good example for Boy. And eating healthier includes eating more fish, which I detest. So for the first meal, I used a recipe in Anabel Karmel's Cookbook for Babies and Toddlers which involved a strong cheese sauce. What could be better? Can't taste the fish because of all the yummy cheese.. except it wasn't necessary, because the cod actually tasted nice to me. I'd only really had fish-and-chips cod or frozen cod. This was fresh and baked nicely. And, then my husband went out and bought me salmon for lunch today. I thought, OK - just eat it with another strong tasting sauce. Again, I DIDN'T NEED TO. How is this possible? After all these years of not being able to stand fish, I think I actually like the taste. What have I been missing out on?!

  1. I LOVE fish, but then when your parents are from a country that spends most of its time underwater it can't be helped.

The fresher the fish the nicer it is and if you catch it yourself nothing is yummier!

    Enjoy

  2. Red Snapper, pan-fried with a flour and chilli batter. Nothing beats it.

  3. I like pan fried pickrel with just flour and butter! I personally can't stand salmon, I'd need the sauce!

  4. I'm a bit like you in that when we grew up in Melbourne, Fish and Chips meant flake. Here in Brisbane its Cod, but they have soooo many other types of fish. My personal favourite is now Baramundi, which when done right is superb!
Thanks for dropping by my blog!

  5. Hi there, ran across your blog. I was never much of a fish person, maybe because we don't live near water. But when we travel near an ocean, I have to have it. It must be that it's fresher and tastes better. I would love to learn how to cook fish, the closest I've come is frozen fish sticks.

  6. When you come from New Orleans, you grow up on seafood... but I was never much of a fish person (except for farm raised catfish) until lately. Now, I love salmon grilled on the Foreman grill with lime juice and lots of Mrs. Dash. I know what you mean about not fitting in your clothes. I'm almost to my top pregnancy weight and my "baby" will be 2 on Sunday... blah!

  7. I like fish, but not all. Give me some good fresh halibut, and I am a happy camper.
