A New Book Challenge

(that I probably won't complete!) I've given myself a new challenge from now until whenever I get bored of it... which is to not go to the library or buy new books until I've read the books I already own and read them. Here's my list of paperback books that I have lying about the house for at least 6 months to a year, if not longer which I have not yet read. Here's hoping I get somewhere with this challenge and don't give up too quickly. If anyone has read any of the following books, please let me know what you think!

The Child In Time by Ian McEwan

The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown

Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire

Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev

Wild Swans by Jung Chang

Schindler's Ark by Thomas Keneally

Yes Man by Danny Wallace

Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell

Bad Kitty by Michele Jaffe

Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon

Captain Corelli's Mandolin by Louis de Bernieres

Middlemarch by George Eliot

The Famished Road by Ben Okri

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon by Stephen King

The Quiet American by Graham Greene

American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis

A Fine Balance Rohinton Mistry

Possession by A S Byatt

One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Brick Lane by Monica Ali

The Hotel New Hampshire by John Irving

Behind the Scenes at the Museum by Kate Atkinson

Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell

Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Peter Hoeg

We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver

The Sea, The Sea by Iris Murdoch

Roots by Alex Haley

Dead Father's Club by Matt Haig

Fast Food Nation by Eric Schossler

The Other Side of You by Salley Vickers

On Beauty by Zadie Smith

Looking at the list again, I realise why a lot of them have gone unread - a combination of the thickness of some of the books, and the seriousness of them. Who has time for long, serious books these days? Clearly not me. I thought I'd share anyway. Have a nice weekend everyone!

  1. Da Vinci COde is an absolute waste of time - you have been warned! That is, unless you appreciate marketing blurb instead of literature.

Just my humble opinion though ;-)

  3. Great project. I've read most, but not all, of the above. While I agree with arukyomi, you might find that the Dan Brown is the light relief you need.

  5. I've read The Davinci code. It was pretty good. I liked it alot.. I've also read The Girl Who Liked Tom Gordon. It's not one of Stephen Kings best, but it was pretty good none the less..
