Vlog: First book that turned me into a reader

There's something very scary about filming a vlog. Please be gentle with me. I was very nervous. I really don't like the way I look or my strange hybrid accent, but I'm on a mission to attempt things that I'm afraid of, and vlogging is something I've always been afraid of.  (And I do apologise for the terrible sound quality! Was filming using webcam on my laptop, which decided to whir all the way through the video. You'll have to strain your ears to hear my very quiet voice!)

But I've been thinking about blogging or vlogging about some of my favourite books as a child. I've already filmed another vlog that will be uploaded shortly.  I'm really hoping to make thing video thing a regular occurrence. Maybe? I might chicken out of that actually.

Please let me know which book as a child turned YOU into a reader!

  1. Great vlog! One of the first books I remember reading is Trumpt of the Swan. I loved that book and how the sawn overcame his disability by using a trumpet to communicate. I want to say I read it a dozen or so times throughout elementary school. I also remember being really into the Boxcar Kids back then as well!

  2. On the subject of books about pigs I remember reading The Peppermint Pig by Nina Bawden a couple of times when I was little. It's a beautiful story, and the ending always made me cry :) Lovely vlog, and I love that you still have your copy of Charlotte's Web from when you were younger :)

    1. I don't think I've ever read Peppermint Pig! And thank you. :) I couldn't part with my copy of Charlotte's Web!

  3. I suppose for me it's the first book I remember reading by myself. I have no idea what it was called but it was about two kids who try to trick the tooth fairy by painting sweetcorn white. They go on a trip to fairyland where they find out what happens to all the teeth. I suppose I should try looking it up or asking the internet! Great vlog, and interesting topic :)

  5. Fantastic vlog Michelle :) When I was like, 6, our teacher told us it was World Book Day and to go home and read a book, so I read one of the Rainbow Fairy books, and ended up sitting in my room for three hours straight reading 6 of those little books! I still remember to this day, it was the Pet Keeper Fairies :') ;)

  6. You did so well in your vlog! I was a huge Enid Blyton fan when I was a child and dreamt of going to Mallory Towers, but the one book that really sticks in my mind is Tom's Midnight Garden, I think I'll buy a copy for my daughter for Christmas.

    1. Thank you. I think it's a great idea to buy children the books you've loved as a child! You know, I've never read anything by Enid Blyton before. Perhaps I should pick one up to read with our family book club!
