LGBT UKYA in 2015

One of the things that I'm most looking forward to in 2015 are the number of books being published that are addressing LGBT themes and characters.  Especially by British authors. I absolutely applaud this turn of events in YA fiction.  I love seeing more and more diversity in YA and it feels like it's been an uphill battle to get more coverage for LGBT characters and relationships but it feels like we're turning a corner.  So, to celebrate here is a list of some amazing sounding books involving LGBT themes in 2015...

The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson

This book is about a transgender main character and it is absolutely amazing. Honestly, this book is one to treasure.

Unspeakable by Abbie Rushton

This book is quite a sweet story about a girl who has not spoken in months following a tragedy and it takes the friendship of a new girl, Jasmine, to shake things up for our main character, Meghan.  I think Meghan and Jasmine's relationship is all kinds of sweet.

Read Me Like A Book by Liz Kessler

We'll be waiting a few more months for this book yet as it will be published in May by Orion. It's a story that Liz Kessler has wanted to write for a very long time, this story of a girl's intense love for another girl. I, for one, cannot wait to get my hands on a copy...

Love Hurts edited by Malorie Blackman

This is just mostly UKYA and is a collection of extracts from other YA books as well as five original short stories all concerning love.  It has great representation of LGBT characters!

The Dark Light by Julia Bell

And four books currently (at the time of writing this post) which don't have covers available as yet.  The Dark Light explores a lesbian relationship while living amongst a religious sect on an island and sounds brilliant.  All of the Above has very little detail released so far, but it's supposedly about sexual fluidity by James Dawson. This Is Not A Love Story has a bisexual main character (and is set in Amsterdam!) by Keren David.  And finally, Masquerade is the third book in the trilogy by Laura Lam who focuses on an intersex character, Micah Grey.

Are you excited to read any of these LGBT UKYA books this year?
