I was saying to N the other day, I really think that crocs will be one of those things that people will look back on in 10 years and think 'what the hell was I thinking wearing those?!' I was taking a walk the other day, and I passed by this woman. It was quite a hot day and she was wearing a cute denim skirt and a tank top. I notice these things, and was thinking 'cute outfit' until I saw her shoes. She managed to ruin the entire ensemble by strapping some hideous pink plastic to her feet. Why do something so ridiculous? I've never worn the things, so I can't really comment on how comfortable they are, but to me, they just look ... heavy. Everywhere I turn I see little girls, teenagers, boys, moms, all wearing these things on their feet, and everytime I pass some such person I can't help but wonder 'WHY?' I will never understand.
Finally, I have someone else who hates these things. They remind me of those crappy jelly shoes we wore as kids.
ReplyDeleteI have a pair. They are very very light, actually. I only wear them when we go someplace where I will be walking in water- like to the lake, out on the boat, or the dogpark (there is a stream there my dog can't stay out of). They are perfect for this because they can get wet and be dried off, unlike tennis shoes, but are more stable in water/mud than flip flops. They can be washed with the garden hose. For adults, I agree, they look stupid anywhere (including the places I wear them.)
ReplyDeleteMy son (who is 2) has them too. He wears them everywhere. I love them on him for the ease of cleaning as well. He can put them on and off by himself, which he can't do yet with other shoes. When he gets a little bigger I will probably not replace them, but until he knows not to walk in mud (or "icky poop" at the dogpark) he can keep wearing them. Plus, if he loses one in water- they float! I am anti-flipflop for little kids, they seems dangerous to me, and this is an easy compromise.
I own a knock off pair of crocs. I made fun of everyone who wore them untill I got talked into trying a pair on. They are very comfy. I wore them everywhere for almost a year. Now I hardly wear them.. I still think they are the most comfortable shoe ever..
ReplyDeleteMy mom owns a pair, and they are light and comfy (I tried them on). But I don't know that I could wear them. They are good for kids, though, and they actually have some other cute styles, like Mary Janes that look a lot better.
ReplyDeleteThank the high heavens. I haven't told anyone this because everyone has them. Oh how I hate these ugly things with holes they call shoes. Today we were at the gardens and guess what? yep, I saw kids with them on. I don't care how cool they are supposed to be or how in style they are. This is something that will NEVER catch on in this house!
ReplyDeleteoy veh i cannot convey to you my hatred for these things, they are like jelly shoes to me! remember jelly shoes??? i have heard they are comfy but they are definitely not pretty and i don't understand the uber-fascination people have with them. not one bit. but your post made me laugh!
