(Lack of) Holiday spirit

I've noticed over the last few years that a theme is beginning to emerge in December. Like now, I'll have gotten the tree up and decorated, the Christmas cards sent out, the Christmas shopping done, the Christmas music playing ...

And yet I don't feel very festive. Is it just me? Is it the stress of getting everything done? Is that what happens when you get older? Is it just that Christmas has now leaked into the first part of November and lasts forever? I feel like I'm supposed to be cheery and festive and instead everything seems like a chore. Please tell me that this isn't just me.

But I am looking forward to the boys opening their presents on Christmas day. I guess it doesn't matter so much for me anymore as long as they're enjoying themselves. (is that why I feel this way?) Anyway.

  1. Yep I know how you feel. The stress is taking away all the excitement. I haven t been able to get the tree up yet and the big girls room still isnt finished *sigh*

  2. I know EXACTLY how you feel. I guess having kids brings a whole new dimension to Xmas: Stress! You want to make it perfect for them (not that mine deserve it, grrrr!) and you end forgetting about having some fun yourself! At least my parents aren;t coming over this year so it is just the 4 of us, therefore Xmas day will be a relaxed affair. Might even open a bottle of champ just for me (other half doesn't drink)!

  3. Every woman who is a mother feels exactly like you do. We literally take on the burden of Christmas and do everything and run around like headless chickens. I haven't met one destressed woman yet.

  5. Emma - Aww. You'll get there. I'm sorry to hear how many other people are so stressed out at the moment :(

Library Mice - Aw! I'm sure your kids DO deserve - glad to hear that things'll be a quieter affair for you this year though :)

Viv - Here's wishing you some time to relax for Christmas :)

Becca - Oh no! I hope you do get it out. Celebrate a little, just don't go too overboard :)

  6. I'm sad that you aren't enjoying the Christmas season. :( I am nerdily addicted to Christmas, and Christmas presents and Christmas cookies. But don't beat yourself up if you're not feeling festive! That's just adding another layer of stress to an already stressful season.

  7. Jenny - I'm sure that's it. I'm expecting myself to just flick a switch and be excited about Christmas and it just doesn't work that way..
