Wedding songs

I don't think I could have written an entire month's worth of posts without mentioning something, anything about my own relationship with N. I have written about it before. That we met on the Internet, like a modern-day fairy tale. We both flew long distances in order to be with each other. That despite not spending as much time together as most other 'normal' couples, we still got married very young and have been married now for over 10 years. We're very happily married and have two beautiful boys together and a fantastic life together.

But that isn't what I want to talk about today. Today, I'm talking wedding songs.

Angels by Robbie Williams - This is our official wedding song and the song that we danced together at our wedding for our first dance as a couple. There really isn't any other song that means as much to us. When I still lived in Oregon, N sent me a Robbie Williams CD and told me that when he heard Angels on the radio, it reminded him of me. It's been 'our song' since then.

The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me by Bryan Adams
- I swear to god, I've never seen this hugely camp video! Oh wow, that is bad. On our wedding video, we had a section of photographs. First pictures of N growing up, from baby photos up until he met me, then baby pictures of me up to my teen years with my friends. That was followed by a series of photographs of the two of us together. And the music in the background to our US photographs is this song, The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You. Sweet, right? :)

I Need You Like This Hole In My Head by Sting
- I know what you're thinking. 'I need you like this hole in my head?!' That's hardly romantic, until you know that it's a song written for an IMAX film about dolphins. And dolphins really do need that hole in their head. It's sounds sweet now, doesn't it? N and I used this in our wedding video as a filler for when guests started arriving to the wedding ceremony. It's upbeat and romantic and every time I hear it, it puts a big smile on my face. My favourite bit?

How much do you need me? Would you stay with me 'til this ocean floor is dry? But if you cannot find the words that say I'm the only one you love that way I guess we'll have to say goodbye

I hope you've enjoyed hearing about my wedding songs!

I would love to know if you have 'a song' between you and your partner? Or just any song that doesn't quite seem romantic, but for whatever reason, is.

  1. Not a 'Real Life' one but my favourite wedding song has to be the stunning moment in Muriel's Wedding when all dressed in white meringue frock she walks down the aisle to I do, I do, I do by Abba.
(It doesn't work in Mama Mia because it's obviously expected)

  2. Aww :) I love it! I can't believe you've been married ten years! There's a hidden track on the Coldplay album X and Y and we always said that would be ours, it must be called Til Kingdom Come, it is so lovely... Failing that, almost anything by Josh Ritter, Good Man perhaps. Such a great post! X

  5. Beautiful song choices. Isn't it wonderful how a simple song can mean so much to two people. The Huz and I danced to one of our favorites "Forever" by Ben Harper at our wedding in 2009. That one will always be special to us.
