Darker books for darker days

Do you find your reading style change during different seasons?  I do.  It just seems the right thing to do when the days start getting shorter and it gets darker sooner, to pick up something a bit more atmospheric.  Something a little bit darker.  I like reading books about demons or zombies during this time of year, especially with Halloween just around the corner.  So here are the books that will be keeping me company on these darker days...

I'm currently reading Falling To Ash by Karen Mahoney and enjoying it!  The others include:

Black Spring by Alison Croggon
Carnival of Souls by Melissa Marr
1.4 by Mike Lancaster
Infinite Days by Rebecca Maisel
The Demon's Covenant by Sarah Rees Brennan
Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake
Dark Inside by Jeyn Roberts
The Dead by Charlie Higson
The Dark and Hollow Places by Carrie Ryan

And let's not forget the many e-books on my Kindle waiting for me, including Broken by A E Rought, Shadows by Ilsa J. Bick and The Madness Underneath by Maureen Johnson.

And some darker books that I've already read recently which I've enjoyed - The Masque of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin, The Dark Heroine by Abigail Gibbs, Zombies Don't Cry by Rusty Fischer, and Zom-B by Darren Shan.

These are the books that I'll be reading, what books will you be reading in the next few weeks, what books will be reading late at night?

  1. I save up all my scary and spooky books for this time of year, and then in summer I read a lot of contemps, road trip books etc, so my reading style definitely changes with the seasons.

Hope you love Dark Inside - it's one of my favourites! :)

    1. I know this post is about the darker books, but I thought 'ooh!' when you mentioned stockpiling roadtrip books for the summer :) Just the thought of a pile of road trip novels makes me happy!

  2. Oh this is a great post Clover! I've never really noticed my reading mood changing with the weather! But some of your recommendations I must check out! I must definitely try and pick up Anna Dressed in Blood, The Masque of Red Death and maybe fit in a re-read of my favourite This is not a test by Courtney Summers! Happy reading! I hope you get to tackle your pile! :)

I totally get what you mean! "Beach Reads" just don't seem appropriate at the moment. Liking your selection... Dark Inside sounds intriguing! Looking forward to some dark reviews!
