Lyndsey from Page After Page (Celebrating British Bloggers)

Hello! Welcome to another edition of Celebrating British Bloggers in which I interview a fabulous blogger every week! This week, we have Lyndsey from Page After Page... whose blog I've been following for many years.

This new one is fairly new however, and I'm sure she'd like more people to be reading her blog. Please do check it out!

First, can you tell me something about yourself and your blog?

I'm Lyndsey and my blog is Page after page... I also used to co-blog at Heaven, Hell and Purgatory. I used to only review YA books but now I'm throwing some adults books in there as well. I'm 26 and in my last year at Nottingham Trent University studying English.

How did you begin being a book blogger?

I also write reviews for a consumer review site and have been doing for a good few years now. As I was writing book reviews, Vicky Dickinson (who also wrote for the same site) told me about blogging and how to go about getting into it. That day I created my first blog and have been going on and off (due to uni) ever since. It's been nearly 2 and a half years since I started now.

When you're not reading or blogging, what do you do with yourself?

Being a student, I can usually be found writing essays. At the minute, I'm writing my dissertation about women in fairy tales which takes up the majority of my time. It seems as though I'm glued to my laptop for the most part of every day. I also work around uni as well so I try to fit in as much as is humanly possible in the day.

What was the first book you reviewed on your blog?

Back on Heaven, Hell and Purgatory it was Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantasky but on Page after Page... it was Forgiven by Jana Oliver.

What has been the best experience of being a book blogger so far?

I have been to some great events but one in particular stands out for me. Last year I went to Leeds to meet Jennifer Donnelly. As not many people could attend the event, it ended being a very intimate brunch with Jennifer, Emma Bradshaw from Bloomsbury, myself and one other guy (I feel bad because I can't remember who it was). We had so much food between us that we couldn't eat though! It was lovely to be able to sit around chatting about books, blogging, university and Paris, amongst other things. What made this day so special for me was getting to ask Jennifer questions and to hear about her life and experiences. If this had been a bigger event, I wouldn't have gotten to know so much about her I don't think.

You can do it, what is your absolute favourite book?

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. No, it's not a YA book and yes, it's a classic but I love it so much. I remember reading it before I applied to get into university and couldn't put it down. I was reading it at work one night and my Mum was laughing at me because I was sat there gasping due to the shock of what was happening. Also, I think you need a good imagination for this book and it made me think about a whole load of different things.

If you could be best friends with any fictional character, who would you choose?

So I'm sort of cheating with this one but I'd love to be friends with either Grace, Gretchen or Greer from Tera Lynn Childs' Medusa Girls series. These three girls are all pretty awesome in their own ways and they're kick ass at the same time. OK, so they go around fighting crazy mythological creatures which would be quite scary but think how exciting your life would be if you were friends with them.

Name your top 5 UK book bloggers!

Kirsty from The Overflowing Library. After pretty much forcing my now fiancĂ© on me, I see her quite often now that I don't live very far away. We sit around talking about books and why boys are stupid and have really random things for lunch!

Carly from Writing from the Tub. She's such a massive lover of contemporary YA and always has awesome recommendations. She also understands my love of expensive make up and red lipstick. If that wasn't enough, Carly posts pictures of hot boys with super amazing arms.

Raimy from Readaraptor writes some fabulous reviews and I love reading them, especially when they make me add books I haven't heard of to my wishlist. She loves dinosaurs too!!

You!!! - You're always doing something different on your blog and you manage to make it personal at the same time. I hardly ever put anything personal on my own blog but I love it when others do. I feel as though we get to know who you are as well as getting to read your reviews.

Emma from Book Angel Booktopia. Emma is always so generous with her books and its lovely to get a surprise package from her now and again. She also sends clothes too! Not only that but she seems to be able to remember everything that everyone likes! It must be all of those lists she writes...

If you could meet your favourite author, who would you like to meet?

This is a tough one. I'm not sure if I have one favourite author. If I could meet someone though I would love for it to be Jana Oliver. I do love her books so much and she seems fabulous and fun.

What would you like to see more of or less of in YA?

Definitely contemporary. There is still so much dystopian, fantasy and paranormal fiction around and I'm a little bored with it now. Contemporary novels never fail to entertain me.

And finally, who is your ultimate book crush?

Alex Fuentes from Perfect Chemistry. I will never get bored of reading that book and swooning over him every single time.

Thank you so much for that, Lyndsey! I especially love how very different your answers are to what I'd imagine :)  We're all so different!

Do you heart Alex Fuentes? Would you love to meet Jana Oliver? Are you a fan of contemporary YA? Let Lyndsey and I know in comments!
