UKYA in June

I'm so excited by the YA being published by British authors this month! The Oathbreaker's Shadow is one of my most highly anticipated debuts for this year! And I've downloaded The Bell Between Worlds from Netgalley and I'm really excited...

I heard Matt Whyman talking about The Savages at the Hay Festival and now I'm absolutely dying to read it! I thought the new Malorie Blackman book was out next month, but apparently not!

I currently don't have any plans for any author guest posts or interviews lined up for this month, but hopefully something will come along? Either way, I'm looking forward to these!

The Oathbreaker's Shadow by Amy McCulloch (6th June, Random House)

Fifteen-year-old Raim lives in a world where you tie a knot for every promise that you make. Break that promise and you are scarred for life, and cast out into the desert.

Raim has worn a simple knot around his wrist for as long as he can remember. No one knows where it came from, and which promise of his it symbolises, but he barely thinks about it at all—not since becoming the most promising young fighter ever to train for the elite Yun guard. But on the most important day of his life, when he binds his life to his best friend (and future king) Khareh, the string bursts into flames and sears a dark mark into his skin.

Scarred now as an oath-breaker, Raim has two options: run, or be killed.

A gripping YA action-adventure fantasy, the first part of a planned duology.

Blood Tracks by Paula Rawsthorne (1st June, Usborne)

Gina is a runner. With her feet pounding the ground and her dad watching, she feels as though she can fly. But when her dad dies in dramatic circumstances, Gina refuses to accept the explanations she is given. Struggling to find the truth, Gina finds herself plunged into a world far removed from the one she has known; a world of lies, crime and betrayal. A world that will make her question everyone and everything around her. And a world she can't run from.

She's come to the attention of Evelyn Knight, the Chairman of the Board - a powerful woman with a sinister plan. The Bell Between Worlds by Ian Johnstone (6th June, HarperCollins)

A glorious epic fantasy in the grand tradition of C.S. Lewis and Philip Pullman, and a major publishing event, The Mirror Chronicles will take you into another world, and on the adventure of your lifetime…

Dusk by Eve Edwards (6th June, Penguin)

Dusk by Eve Edwards is a beautiful love story set against the brutal back drop of WWI.

A love worth fighting for.

But against the troubled backdrop of wartime London, an unlikely but intense romance blossoms. And even the bloody trenches of the Somme, where they are both posted, cannot diminish their feelings for each other.

But Helen is concealing a secret and when a terrible crime is committed there are devastating consequences for them both.

When lives are being lost, can true love survive?

The Boy With Two Heads by Andy Mulligan (6th June, Random House)

Two heads are always better than one - isn't that how the saying goes? Well that's not how Richard feels, when he wakes up to discover he's grown a second head.

It wouldn't be so bad if the second head was as calm and reasonable as Richard, but he isn't. Rude, rebellious and difficult, Rikki makes Richard's life impossible. On the football pitch, they're brilliant, working together to score goal after goal. But at home and at school they're in constant opposition and when Rikki sabotages the school debate on live television, he launches them on a rollercoaster journey to self destruction.

On the run from the sinister Dr Warren, the two heads are forced to work together. Fleeing to the mountains of Wales, they're pursued to the top of the highest peak by a crack team of commandoes. Only a miracle can save them...

Shipwrecked by Siobhan Curham (3rd June, Electric Monkey)

This is the first book in a major new series. "Lost" meets "Gossip Girl". I jump at the sound of a whispered voice over my shoulder. But when I turn round all I see is sand, and the towering, green wall of the rainforest. I guess it must have been the breeze, but I can't help shivering. I have the weirdest feeling that we're being watched. Grace Delaney and her fellow dance students are en route to perform on a South Pacific cruise-ship when a freak storm hits and they find themselves stranded on a deserted island. With the tropical heat rising, passions and tensions swell to breaking point. And the island itself is quietly steaming with a terrible secret...

The Savages by Matt Whyman (6th June, Hot Key Books)

They'd love to have you for dinner . . .

Sasha Savage is in love with Jack - a handsome, charming ... vegetarian. Which wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for the fact that Sasha's family are very much 'carnivorous'. Behind the family facade all is not as it seems. Sasha's father rules his clan with an iron fist and her mother's culinary skills are getting more adventurous by the day. When a too-curious private detective starts to dig for truths, the tight-knit family starts to unravel - as does their sinister taste in human beings . . .

Noble Conflict by Malorie Blackman (6th June, Random House)

Years after a violent war destroyed much of the world, Kaspar has grown up in a society based on peace and harmony. But beyond the city walls, a vicious band of rebels are plotting to tear this peace apart. It is up to the Guardians - an elite peacekeeping force - to protect the city, without ever resorting to the brutal methods of their enemy.

When Kaspar joins the Guardians, he has a chance encounter with a rebel - a beautiful girl named Rhea. Haunted from that moment on by strange visions and memories - memories that could only belong to Rhea - he realises he hasn't been told the truth about what the rebels really want, and what he's really fighting for.
